In 1995 a group of volunteers -- Friends of Byers-- began the effort to preserve this historic site and their efforts resulted in the purchase of the site by Commerce Township in 1998. Many years later, The Friends of Byers continue to work year round to help maintain the buildings and grounds, sponsor events and hold fundraisers to help defray the costs of preservation and upgrading facilities.
You are invited and encouraged to share in this effort -- there are opportunities for one and all, for whatever your background or level of skill, e.g., gardening and yard work, building trades, event planning, event meet and greeting, and webmastering.
Cash donations are also welcome to help with the costs off maintenance and materials and to provide feed for the wildlife.
Meetings are generally held the last Thursday of the month at 6:30 at The Commerce Public Library.
